Tendground Editorial We loved it
Pause is the East Austin standby. Three tubs, all 38–42°F, 15-minute sessions. The setup is straightforward — no expensive add-ons, no "alignment session" upsells. Where they win: the staff is informed (you can ask actual questions about contrast protocols), the tubs are cleaned obviously, and the sauna is a real Finnish-style cedar, not the inflatable kind. Where they lose: it's not aesthetically Instagrammable. The space is functional, not designed for the camera. If you're new to cold plunge, ask for Maya. She'll explain breath protocols without making it weird.

What you actually get

Three tubs at 38°F, 40°F, 42°F (the warmest is rotated weekly for newcomer transitions). 15-minute sessions, with an attendant nearby who’ll watch the clock but won’t hover. The traditional contrast cycle is 3 rounds of cold + sauna, ending on cold.

The sauna setup

Real Finnish cedar. 180°F average. You can do your own pours on the rocks (eucalyptus oil available at the entry). The bench setup is two-tiered. Holds about 8 people comfortably.

Booking practicalities

Drop-ins are welcomed but the 5:30am and 6pm slots fill 24 hours ahead. The 10-pack ($240) is a 20% discount and doesn’t expire for 6 months. Membership is $99/month for unlimited plunges + 2 sauna sessions/day — pays off if you go 4+ times/month.

The membership math

Drop-in: $28 plunge / $45 plunge + sauna combo. 10-pack: $240 = $24/session. Membership: $99/mo = $25/session if you go 4 times.

If you go 3 times a month or fewer, the 10-pack wins. 4+ times/month, the membership wins.

We use Pause as our regular. We send first-timers to Ice Lab. We use Restore when we want infrared specifically (different physiology).

Best for
Regulars who want a no-frills routine. Anyone who values water clarity and clean tubs over ambiance. Mornings before work — the 5:30 opening is real.
Not great for
First-timers who want hand-holding (Ice Lab in Domain does that better). People who want a 'wellness experience' — this is utility-grade.
