How we verify — with the real numbers.
Most directories won't tell you how much of their data anyone has actually checked. Here is ours, updated with every data refresh.
The pipeline
Our discovery engine finds wellness businesses from public sources (Google Places and structured search), then every venue passes through three independent checks before and after it reaches this site:
1. Category evidence. We read what the place actually is according to its public business category — not just its name. A bar, a school or a finance office cannot appear here no matter how wellness-y its name sounds, and a venue with no category data is flagged, never silently trusted.
2. Classification. The engine assigns modalities (sauna, cold plunge, massage…) from explicit signals. Where a tag was derived from the venue's name alone, we treat that as a weak claim, not a fact — the tag you see is our best evidence, and we say so.
3. A build gate. The site literally refuses to publish if the share of venues no signal has recognised grows past a fixed ceiling. The ceiling only ratchets down; it can never be raised to make a build pass.
The numbers, honestly
As of the current dataset (2026-08-17):
- 2,691 venues published across 26 US cities.
- 2,238 (83.2%) carry independent category evidence that they are a wellness-type venue.
- 1,302 (48.4%) have been positively classified by the engine's stricter signals.
- 1 have passed an editorial human review so far. That number is small, and we would rather print it than imply otherwise. A mapped listing is not a recommendation.
When a human ruling and the machine disagree, the human ruling wins — permanently. A venue an editor has ruled out cannot be re-published by the classifier.
What this means for you
Use the city maps the way we built them: as an honest, machine-checked map of what exists, with addresses and official sites — then confirm hours and prices with the venue. The small set of providers we actively recommend is a separate, human-checked layer, and we label which is which. If you spot an error, or you own a listed business, email partners@tendground.com — corrections and removals are actioned within 10 business days.
