How much does a massage cost? Prices from 45 US venues (2026)
We read the price lists of massage studios, spas and clinics in 23 US cities. Here is what an hour, 90 minutes and a couples massage cost, what an hour includes, and what deep tissue and hot stones add.
Short answer: A 60-minute massage cost a median of $120 at the 45 US massage studios, spas and clinics whose own price lists we read in October 2026. Half of them charged between $100 and $135, and the full range ran from $50 to $179. A 90-minute massage cost a median of $155, and a 60-minute couples massage $200 for the two of you. Tip on top where the venue says gratuity is not included, and ask what the hour includes: at Massage Envy, 10 minutes of a 60-minute session are consultation and changing.
The price of an hour of massage depends on where you book it, and the headline number leaves things out. So instead of guessing at ranges, we read the price lists that massage studios, spas and clinics in 23 US cities publish on their own websites and kept only the standard price for one session.
Every venue below links to the page we read. We have not booked or visited them, and we take no fees from any of them.

The cheapest hour on the list, $50, is at Essence of Serenity in Philadelphia; the most expensive, $179, is a custom massage at Massage MDB in Seattle. At the 4 venues where the hour on our list is a Thai massage, it cost $90 to $150.
Is a 90-minute massage better value?
A little. At the 31 venues that list both lengths, 90 minutes cost a median of 1.42 times the 60-minute price for 1.5 times the time, so each minute was about 6% cheaper.
What does “60 minutes” include?
Ask, because it is not always 60 minutes of massage. Massage Envy’s membership page says its session “includes 10-minutes of consultation, dressing and undressing and 50 minutes of hands on service.” Other venues book the full time on the table. The booking page or the front desk can tell you which you are buying. For at-home bookings, our guide to mobile massage vs going to a studio covers what the travel and setup add.
Deep tissue, hot stones and couples massage
- Deep tissue. At the 8 venues that price deep tissue and their basic massage separately, 3 charge the same and the rest $5 to $20 more for an hour.
- Hot stones. At 5 venues, a hot stone hour cost the same at 2 and $30 to $50 more at the others.
- Couples massage. At 9 venues, a 60-minute couples massage cost $179 to $340 for two, a median of $200, close to the price of two single hours at the same venue, since you book two therapists at once. Our guide to booking a couples massage covers the format.
Chains, memberships and intro prices
Franchise chains price by location. Massage Envy says that “each location is an independently owned and operated franchise,” that services vary by location, and that its intro rate is “valid only for first-time guests.” Its membership page adds that unused sessions “expire and are forfeited if not used within 60 days of membership cancellation.”
So compare the price you will pay after the first visit, and read the cancellation terms before you sign. Our guides on whether memberships are worth it and how to cancel a wellness membership cover both sides.
What about tipping?
In the US, a tip on top of the price is the norm for massage, and the chains say so: Elements Massage states that “Gratuity is not included,” and Massage Envy lists its introductory prices as “excluding gratuity.” Some hotel and resort spas add a service charge, in which case you do not tip twice. Our guide on tipping at a wellness studio or spa covers how much and when.
How do you pay less without getting less?
- Compare a few venues near you. Prices for the same hour ran from $50 to $179 on this list, and half the venues charge $100 to $135.
- Book the cheaper hours. Some venues price by time of day or week: one Nashville studio lists a weekday rate of $110 against its regular $130, and a Chicago therapist charges $120 an hour, or $140 after 8 pm.
- Weigh a package against a membership if you go often, and read the terms before you commit.
- Check whether it is covered. Our guide on whether wellness spending is HSA or FSA eligible covers the rules. If the problem is an injury, massage vs physical therapy may change the comparison, and our guides to checking a practitioner’s credentials and reading studio reviews help you pick the therapist.
